When is the right time to install LVT or Carpet? The HVAC should be fully operational. The hvac should be working before the flooring will be installed. There are two reasons for this, Temperature and Moisture, in cold weather it is important to have a constant temperature of close to 70 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 48 hours before installation and 72 hours after installation for the adhesive to cure properly, and in the summer the hvac pulls the moisture out of the air and sub floor (water is heavier then air and the moisture settles and gets absorbed in the sub floor) if the moisture level in the sub floor is too high it can cause the installation to fail. Other hard surface flooring (porcelain, or Hardwood) should be installed. Ceramic and wood flooring should be finished with the right edging where they will transition to the carpet or vinyl flooring. All other trades should have their work complete before the flooring. You do not want workmen dragging tools or ladders over the new flooring and cause damage. You don’t want paint, spackle etc. ruining the new flooring. If the flooring must be installed while other trades will still be doing work afterwards, the new flooring should be fully covered with heavy duty paper, for carpeting we have used carpet shield by surface shields it works well and stays in place. In projects where wood base moldings are used, it is preferable to install vinyl flooring before the base is installed. The cleaning company should come in before the flooring is done. It is important that the subfloors be clean and free of dust when installing the flooring.

I love that you talked that your flooring should be covered to avoid getting damaged by other equipment. Yesterday, my missis told me that she planned to have vinyl flooring installed in our home for cost-effective flooring and easy cleanup, and she asked if I had any idea what could be the best option to do. Thank you for the informative article, and I'll be sure to consult a trusted vinyl plank flooring service as they can help us provide more information about the products they offer.

Quality flooring installation can challenge even the most experienced pros. Each material can be problematic in its own way. Thank you for sharing your great post!

It's interesting to know that the HVAC unit must already be installed and working before the floors are done. As you mentioned, the cold weather must be constant and at least 70 degrees Fahrenheit for two days to ensure that they will cure properly. I will keep that in mind when I get my house built next year which I have been waiting for and saving up for the past three years. It will help as well if I could ask professionals first regarding the engineered flooring that we might choose for the property.

Thanks for helping me understand that we should have the floors installed after the HVAC has been installed. As you mentioned, this is to ensure that the temperature and the moisture would be controlled at about 70 degrees Fahrenheit for 48 hours and 72 hours before and after the process. I will ask professionals that I can find regarding that since I plan to have residential vinyl floors placed in replacement of the original ones in this house that I inherited, since they are quite old by now and seems crusty.

Thanks so much for talking about how temperature and moisture can affect a home flooring and it's important to keep it consistent. My partner and I have been wanting to replace a lot of the flooring in our house with hardwood flooring. We'll have to look into finding some professionals to help us install everything properly and hopefully avoid complications.

Excellent post on the best time to install flooring. It's helpful that you stated that the HVAC system should be functional prior to the installation process in order to maintain a steady temperature continuously. This is such a useful information. If I ever need to replace flooring, I'll definitely remember this tip. Thanks.

Thank you for mentioning that new flooring should be completely covered in heavy-duty paper if it needs to be installed while other trades are still working. For carpets, we have used carpet shield by Surface Shields; it works well and stays in place. My mother claims that her workplace floor is cool. I'll advise her to hire a pro to install the carpet.
