When is the right time to install LVT or Carpet? The HVAC should be fully operational. The hvac should be working before the flooring will be installed. There are two reasons for this, Temperature and Moisture, in cold weather it is important to have a constant temperature of close to 70 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 48 hours before installation and 72 hours after installation for the adhesive to cure properly, and in the summer the hvac pulls the moisture out of the air and sub floor (water is heavier then air and the moisture settles and gets absorbed in the sub floor) if the moisture level in the sub floor is too high it can cause the installation to fail. Other hard surface flooring (porcelain, or Hardwood) should be installed. Ceramic and wood flooring should be finished with the right edging where they will transition to the carpet or vinyl flooring. All other trades should have their work complete before the flooring. You do not want workmen dragging tools or ladders over the new flooring and cause damage. You don’t want paint, spackle etc. ruining the new flooring. If the flooring must be installed while other trades will still be doing work afterwards, the new flooring should be fully covered with heavy duty paper, for carpeting we have used carpet shield by surface shields it works well and stays in place. In projects where wood base moldings are used, it is preferable to install vinyl flooring before the base is installed. The cleaning company should come in before the flooring is done. It is important that the subfloors be clean and free of dust when installing the flooring.
